During his first term in the White House, Donald Trump’s immigration initiatives impacted all aspects of legal immigration including certain restrictions for entry into the U.S.; increased scrutiny on all classifications of employment-based, family-based, and humanitarian-based applications; and the implementation of additional criteria for certain visa types.
While it is still unclear at this time which specific immigration policies Trump will enact in his next term, there are steps employers and foreign nationals can take now to prepare for his return to office, which will be the focus of Garfinkel Immigration Law Firm’s upcoming webinar.
The webinar, entitled “Ready for Round Two? Navigating Immigration in a Second Trump Term,” will take place on Dec. 17 from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. and be hosted by Partner William Hummel and Senior Associate Attorney Nam Douglass.
Some strategies Hummel and Douglass will discuss in their presentation include utilizing premium processing whenever available, initiating green card filings as soon as possible, evaluating international travel, ensuring I-9 compliance, and more.
Hummel, an N.C. State Bar certified Specialist in Immigration Law, supervises the Firm’s Education Specialty Practice Group. He has extensive employment-based immigration experience including the preparation of nonimmigrant visa petitions as well as with green card applications, student visas, and the PERM process. Further, William supports clients with global (non-U.S.) immigration matters and oversees the firm’s family-based immigration practice.
Douglass is also certified as a Specialist in Immigration Law by the N.C. State Bar. She has practiced immigration law since 2011 and has extensive employment-based immigration experience including the preparation of H, L, O and TN visa petitions as well as with green card applications including National Interest Waivers, student visas and the PERM process. She also has experience in the family-based and humanitarian immigration sectors as well as with workplace compliance and I-9 audits.
