Welcome to the Garfinkel Immigration staff spotlight series, where we will conduct a bimonthly Q&A with one of the Firm’s team members. In this edition, we spoke with Senior Paralegal/PERM Team Lead Renée O.
What drew you to the immigration law field?
Philosophically, I’ve always found it interesting/puzzling because my grandmother emigrated to the U.S. when she was in her 30s, and in high school and college, I was personally impacted by friends who were struggling with maintaining lawful status.
Practically, what really drew me in was my bestie! She told me about this great field she was working in, and here I am over a decade later.
What have you found most rewarding about working in immigration law?
It’s always rewarding to have helped see someone through what can appear to be a mystifying process to an approval.
In terms of the day-to-day, it’s very satisfying to learn about our clients’ unique industries/roles/needs, and work with them towards an optimal solution.
What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
I love getting out with my family, including two toddlers, and trying to see the world through their eyes!
What is your favorite movie or TV show? Why?
If I ever need a pick-me-up, Bob’s Burgers always provides it, along with a catchy tune that I can’t get out of my head.
